The countdown has finally ended. The Abierto del Tortugas Country Club por la Copa Emilio Anchorena Gran Premio Audi (the Tortugas Open), first stage of Argentina’s 2013 Triple Crown, kicked off this Tuesday (September 24th).

Alegría Sancor Seguros faced La Aguada ICBC (zone A), with the latter team having made a last-minute change in its line-up, as Javier Novillo Astrada was replaced for this match by Guillermo Terrera (7), which meant the first-named team had a one-goal handicap advantage over its rival (34 to 33).

Alegría surged ahead right from the onset, ending the first chukker 4-1, and this margin proved conclusive throughout the match. La Aguada managed to remain three goals behind by the finish of the second period, after which Alegría increased its advantage by one more goal, and the team of the Novillo Astrada family was never able make of for the goal difference.

The final scoreboard read 13-8, with “Polito” Pieres playing a terrific game, scoring 11 of the Alegría team’s 13 goals, with Hilario Ulloa scoring the remaining two. Facundo Sola stood out in the other team with six goals to his name.

The second day of the Tortugas Open is this Wednesday (September 25th), with two zone B teams in action: La Natividad Amarok vs. La Aguada Las Monjitas ICBC, as from 4 p.m.

Reigning champions Ellerstina will make their event debut this Saturday against La Aguada, and on Sunday, La Dolfina will play their first match in the event, facing Wednesday’s losing team

Aniversary Cup FEA Show Jumping BA

COPA ANIVERSARIO FEA - Club Aleman de Equitacion.
Another testing grand prix track where only the 2 globe trotters managed a clear in the first round which had many with numerous faults and some retirements! The clears came from Alexis Trosch and the super talented Parforce Cooper and Alejandro Madorno with Milano de Flore; both recently successful in Europe.
Some new younger faces attempted this course, but today was not the day to have a try at grand prix, 1,50m !! ; some excellent rounds with just 4 faults came from last weeks winner, Mexican Juan Alverez del Castillo and his 2, Martin Dopazo, Alvaro Albarracin and Martin Mallo who is doing a superb job on his new ride Winbishi Caloudina, a scopey mare who does not look easy, congratulations! The winner again with the only double clear in a good time was Parforce Cooper; Milano de Flore was quicker but had the last down for 4 faults, good stuff boys !!

Rolex Cup Grand Prix Jumping Argentina

Better known locally as the Gran Premio "104' Aniversario Copa Rolex., 1,50m

A full entry of the top 25 in Argentina tackled this technical, typical Grand Prix course and by the performance, the course builder overestimated the level of horses and riders as there was only 1 clear round in the first round. Hence the second round was made so easy that 90% of the riders jumped clear. It was therefore easy for  the eventual winner, Juan Alvarez Del  Castillo and his scopey horse Puertas Coloredo to just jump a careful clear. The minor placings were made up of mostly by the 4 faulters from the first round. Looking forward to some more exciting Grand Prixs this spring.

I will keep you posted with my views!!

Great Britain win team European Gold

Great Britain showjumpers win European Championship gold

Great Britain's Olympic showjumping champions have won their first European team title for 24 years.

The team - Ben Maher, Michael Whitaker, William Funnell and Scott Brash - led overnight and a clear round by individual leader Maher helped them secure victory in Herning, Denmark.

But Britain failed to retain their dressage title, despite Charlotte Dujardin setting a new world record.

She beat her own previous best of 84.447%, with 85.942% on Valegro.

Double Olympic champion Dujardin and team-mates Carl Hester, Michael Eilberg and Gareth Hughes were third behind new champions Germany and runners-up Holland.

Brash was the last rider to go in the showjumping, knowing he could afford four faults and still keep Britain ahead of Germany.

He knocked just one fence down, meaning Britain finished on a total of 12.18 penalties, with Germany posting 12.77 for silver and Sweden (13.44) claiming bronze.

Victory means Britain are only the second country in showjumping history, after Germany, to hold Olympic and European crowns simultaneously.

Both Maher and Brash were members of the victorious London 2012 team, while 53-year-old Whitaker was competing in his 10th European Championships.

"It is an unbelievable achievement. I am absolutely delighted - they all rode unbelievably," said Great Britain team boss Rob Hoekstra.

"It was a different kind of tension from London. We were in front here, which we weren't in London, and everyone is trying to catch up with you in that situation."
